Thanks to the efforts of young independent developers, once beautiful, and now quite disfigured by large companies, the face of the genre Survival Horror slowly begins to acquire the outward outlines. True from underground surgery, like Kickstarter, There are still unpleasant consequences: the absence of large budgets and the inexperienced authors led to the fact that many of the released (relatively recently) Indie – citizens They are very similar to each other. AND Slender, And Outlast – Games are certainly excellent, but the operation of the ideas of Amnesia: The Dark Descent no longer looks good in a good tone. And second – rate projects made according to the same patterns, like Daylight, further exacerbate the situation. Therefore, at first glance, it seems that the fresh Among the Sleep will be all the same claustrophobic hide and seek from monsters, only in the role of a very young hero. But fortunately, the Norwegians from Krillbite Studio did not fall under the influence of the mainstream and gave us a really original project.
The terrible and gloomy horror originates from a very cheerful scene: a bright sun shines outside the window, our hero (two – year – old navigation) calmly sits on a chair, and a caring mother diligently works on baking a festive cake, simultaneously falling asleep with tons of “Utibozema” type tons. However, with the onset of darkness, such a good mood is changing sharply and after half an hour we find ourselves in the surreal world of nightmares, which can only be found from the missing mother.

However, we are invited to reveal some details of the plot on our own by studying strange images, drawings that we observe during the passage. True, such a lesson beyond its own judgments and thoughts will not bring anywhere.

Nevertheless, the lack of history of history still adds a couple of points to the mystical atmosphere of the game, which, in fact, is one of the main advantages of Among the Sleep. Krillbite Studio did not resort to banal instruments of intimidation of players, like the favorite of all the scamers, but focused on creating a kind of nursery nursery hill, frightening not jumping out of the corner of monsters, and with obscure images, playing chiaroscuro, flashing in silhouettes and extraneous sounds. Here the devilry does not let the player directly on his forehead, she shows only her part, entrusting the task of giving fear to our imagination. Therefore, the most ordinary coat on a hanger in Among The Sleep is able to scare much more stronger than any psychobic with a bloodied ax.
Nevertheless, it is worth recognizing that the degree of tension in the creation of Krillbite Studio is noticeably lower than in the same outlast. The first hour of the game is completely relatively calm, except for the aforementioned scene from the coat: we methodically explore the locations with a good artistic design, collect peculiar keys to the doors and solve simple puzzles from the category “substitute a chair to get to the door handle”. However, a certain gameplay’s gloom and the comparative carelessness of what is happening is unexpectedly replaced by dynamics and the strongest sappress with the advent of the first monster, which had previously seemed to be another ghostly silhouette. Here we approach another dignity of Among the Sleep – local monsters, which owe the most interesting and terrible scenes in the game. There are only two monsters, but their study and general appearance inspire fear even after passing.

But do not forget that the cornerstone of Among the Sleep is its main character. The guys from Krillbite Studio very skillfully managed to convey the feeling that you are playing clumsy peanuts. Among the Sleep can rightfully be considered one of the most original and fresh horror over the past couple. Despite the strange storytelling and sometimes bored with the gameplay, the game greatly fulfills its main task – it scares well, using techniques that are not entirely characteristic of video games. However, are you ready to lay out for an extremely short adventure (only two hours) solid 400 ?
